One subject that we have debated is whether or not we should nap when we get to Spain the first day. "Rick Steves says this", "*insert friend* says that", etc. The speech we have heard too many times goes a little something like this, "Girls: we are leaving Chicago at 4pm, this means we are going to arrive at 7:30am Spanish time, so we will miss sleeping for this night. We have to take a 2-3 hour nap when we arrive and its going to be sooo hard to wake up, but we have to do it. Then we'll be set for the trip". We know her intentions are good, and meanwhile we have our nap schedule down pat.
After an extremely cramped ride to the dog ranch with all six family members in the car (3 Sues, and 1 Bob in the backseat), we dropped the dogs and headed to the airport. **Note: Bob is very much alive, despite the fact that Sioux is very much stepping on him 9. The number of empty parking spots we passed in the airport parking lot before we settled on the one furthest from the shuttle stop. |
Fast forward to finally getting out of the car after circling the lot for ten minutes (not because the lot was full and we couldn't find a spot, but because their were SO many available spots, we couldn't decide which one to take). We get out of the car, and lo and behold there are 5 suitcases. Wait. 1 for Cedar, 1 for Hannah, 1 for Chuck and.............2 for Barbs!!!!!! WHAT??!? Our fears were put to ease when "rest-assured" it was a "carry on", and her tote could fit in that "carry on". We thought we had resolved the now six-bag-issue, but our shock came back when we looked up and she is wearing ANOTHER purse. (If you lost count, that now is a grand total of 8 bags, 4 of which belong to Barbs)
Currently, we are in Chicago on a 27 hour layover. So what else would we do, other than get a pedicure (that Chuck pushed the hardest for). See photo to right. "Stewardess". The noun Barbs uses to refer to what most people post-1960's call 'flight attendants' As much ragging as we do on our parents, we are SUPER excited for this trip, and thank them SO much for all of the laughs they give us. We cannot say enough how thankful we are for all of the intensive planning and love that went/is going into this vacation. We think it'll be one for the books. |
